Goal of the Department
The aim of the training is to produce competent public health officers, who undertake preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative and nutrition service compatible and relevant to the Ministry of Health and Education health needs to the individual family and community as a whole. In addition, the graduates will manage the health institutions they will be assigned in a spirit of team work and community based approach.
Objectives
The program will enable the graduates to:
Make assessment of the community health needs based on the standards of community assessment.
Do intervention activities based on the identified health problems of the community.
Provide curative, promotive and rehabilitative health services.
Participate and carry out prevention and controlling diseases with other governmental and non‑governmental organizations.
Provide comprehensive outpatient and inpatient curative services & rehabilitative services.
Diagnose and treat the patient by obtaining necessary information from the individual patient and family, physical examination and investigations.
Manage and administer activities of health services at various levels.
Undertake basic community health researches.
Graduate Profile
A graduate Public Health Professional will be expected to play the following roles:
Provide comprehensive outpatient and inpatient services.
Handle health related emergencies and casualties including minor operative procedures from the front line field set‑up up to the higher level institutions.
Perform minor surgical and obstetric procedures.
Provide preventive, curative and rehabilitative health care services.
Refer difficult cases to the next higher health institution and do follow‑up to guarantee continuity of care.
Counsel and teach patients with regard to existing health problem of the community.
Take leadership and managerial role and contribute for the development of profession.
Coordinate and participate as a leadership role in the prevention and control of communicable diseases management.
Undertake health research and provide community service.
Involve in teaching and learning process.
