Goal of the Department
The main goal of the undergraduate degree in nursing is to provide an educational program through which the graduates will be prepared to assume responsibility in the primary, secondary and tertiary care of people as professional nurses. It is expected that graduates are capable of teaching and supervising appropriate nursing and health care in different settings and participate in the administration of nursing service and education.
Objectives
The primary goal of the B.Sc. nursing program is to prepare comprehensively competent nurses with potential in clinical nursing, community health nursing, nursing service administration and nursing education, who will improve the quality of clients care in the prevention, promotion, curative and rehabilitative at all the four levels along which the National Health Service is organized. Hence, it includes comprehensively all specialty programs including clinical, community nursing components, and teaching and nursing research.
Graduate Profile
At the completion of the program graduates will be able to:
- Demonstrate awareness of and skills required in the nursing process in provision of health care and nursing of patients, they will be competent to:
- Assess nursing needs of individuals, families and community.
- Plan appropriate action to meet their need through competent safe nursing care.
- Take appropriate action to help people retain or sustain their best possible level of health.
- Work with other members of health team and community in the promotion of health, prevention of illness, restoration of health and rehabilitation.
- Apply relevant knowledge from the humanities, biological and behavioral sciences in carrying out health care and nursing activities and functions.
- Show sensitivity and skills in human relationships and communication in daily work.
- Demonstrate leadership skills in working with the health team, community and others in provision of health care.
- Promotion of health, precautions against illness, restoration of health and rehabilitation.
- Identify and solve major health problems of the community.
- Demonstrate leadership qualities and decision‑making abilities in various situations (including skills in teaching, management, interpersonal relationships and communications).
