Welcome to the KEAMED
Medical College
KEAMED College was established in March 2002 to discharge its national duty in the health sector development program through education and training of skilled health professionals at mid – level that render health services to the Ethiopian population at large. At that time, private colleges in nursing was evolving for the first time in the history of Ethiopia and the need for training of clinical nurses was acute. Therefore, a diploma course in clinical nursing was started.
KEAMED’s very first campus was at the Russian Cultural Institute at Piazza in Addis Ababa. When it first started training nursing in 2002 (1994 E.C.) with only 60 nurse students, the college had faced a lot of problems. But our commitment to ourselves and to the college’s students forced us to constantly thrive for the highest standard of quality under the limitations faced. To expand its responsibilities and give access and opportunities to other regions outside Addis Ababa, KEA MED launched regional branches (campus) in Nekemte, Jimma, Assosa, Robe, Bahir Dar, Debre Markos, and Debre Birhan town with the current policy of MOE for the technical and vocational level of training and degree programs. Currently, we have opened three campuses in Addis Ababa; 22 campus around 22 Mazoria, Arada campus around Piassa (Enkulal Fabrika), and Ayertena campus at Ayertena Square; and Bahir Dar and Debre Birhan Campus. In all these, we teach over 5000 students in diploma, degree and masters program.
With all motivations and dedication, the college has got a full accreditation for all its programs nationwide from the respective federal and regional agencies. Since its inception and accreditation the college has successfully graduated, more than 25,000 graduates.
As less profitable with reasonable and affordable tuition fee, KEA MED exists to make a difference in the gender status both in the society and in the lives of individuals. Higher education is confronted with formidable challenges. Thus, undertaking radical reform programs, revisiting and invigorating the long established teaching/learning modes of delivery, redirecting research endeavors, and service provisions is of paramount importance. Taking this existing reality into account, KEA-MED has embarked into a reform program. Thus, areas of priority for reform have been clearly identified based on the impact they bear on the successful accomplishment of the college's vision and mission.
