Goal of the Department
The goal of the department of family health is to produce reproductive health professionals who are equipped with relevant and applicable knowledge and skills to deal with reproductive health problems, to conduct research in Reproductive health, to teach in the undergraduate and post graduate public health training programs, and render other services where necessary.

Objectives
The objectives of the Master’s program in Reproductive Health are to enable graduates to:
Train Reproductive Health professionals who can plan, implement, supervise, monitor and evaluate reproductive health programs.
Deliver courses such as Reproductive health, Nutrition and Population studies to students in the Health and Medical sciences at the undergraduate and graduate programs.
Carry out surveys and research related to Reproductive health, Nutrition and Population.
Develop reproductive health service guidelines, manuals and training materials based on reproductive health strategy and population policy.
Provide short‑term and in‑service RH training to lower and middle level health professionals.
Provide consultancy services and collaborate with governmental, non‑governmental and international agencies in designing, monitoring and evaluating health projects.
Plan outreach services in Family planning & integrated Community Based reproductive health services.
Describe the interrelationship between behavioral sciences, community medicine and define major terms and concepts related to behavioral sciences including describing the main determinants of health behavior.
Comprehend the application of statistics in reproductive health science and the main uses of statistical methods in the broader field of reproductive health issues.
Build a firm foundation in the principles and tools of management as applied to reproductive health services with emphasis on practical skills in identifying and addressing management problems.
Monitor and evaluate RH, population and Nutrition programs.
Demonstrate ethical and professional relationship with stakeholders in addressing RH issues
Graduate Profile
At the end of the graduation, Reproductive Health professionals are expected to:
Understand and describe the size and nature of reproductive health problems of a community, and elucidate the natural history of these problems.
Carry out research on reproductive health issues and organize workshops for information dissemination.
Identify socio‑economic and demographic factors affecting sexual and RH care practice, design interventions, implement and evaluate RH activities.
Design and implement appropriate reproductive health programs and projects, and evaluate their effectiveness considering social, cultural and political contexts.
Work with other organizations on intra and inter‑sectoral basis in carrying out RH activities.
Integrate reproductive health activities into the existing health service program.
Address gender issues including male involvement in all areas of sexual and reproductive health.
Understand the diverse process of empowerment and community development, and work to support RH activities.
Contribute significantly to human resource capacity building related to reproductive health.
Demonstrate professional ethics and discipline as Reproductive health professionals.
Demonstrate commitment to the promotion of the Reproductive health profession.
Play a proactive role in addressing cross‑cutting issues like Gender, HIV/AIDS, environment and population development to facilitate national development.
Serve as consultant for different institutions including Governmental and Non‑Governmental organizations in areas of reproductive health.
Play a pivotal role in addressing national and regional development needs related to reproductive health.
Update themselves and keep abreast of contemporary issues related to reproductive health.
Apply new knowledge in reproductive health and population to solve pressing reproductive health problems.
Show concern for improving overall reproductive health services and policy within the country, and apply skills to mitigate problems.
Actively participate in teaching and learning processes for health professionals in reproductive health courses, and construct/evaluate RH curriculum.
